Missions Prep 101

Course Description: This is
a very practical preparatory course for contemporary
shorter term missionary service. The primary
focus of this class will be to prepare students
to serve with Iris Ministries of Rolland and
Heidi Baker, whose headquarters is in Mozambique.
Instructors: Ben and Brenda
Peters of Open Heart Ministries, Int. Guest
instructors will include leaders from Iris Ministries.
Contributors will include those who have experience
on the field.
Course Requirements: Commitment
to personal involvement in fulfilling the Great
Commission, Compassion for Souls, Consistent
attendance, Completing reading assignments.
It is expected that most students will participate
in a future missions trip.
Course Content:
- Preparing the heart: Seeing people from
God’s perspective; Cultivating Godly
Compassion; Becoming a Living Sacrifice; Servanthood;
Flexibility.
- Preparing the mind: Understanding cultural
differences. Learning phrases in Portuguese
and tribal languages.
- Preparing the body: Health issues such
as medications, shots, sanitation, grooming,
building immunity, etc. Tips to keep you safe
from unexpected dangers.
- Spiritual gifts: Learning to minister in
the power of the Holy Spirit, Power Evangelism,
Deliverance, Prophetic Ministry, Healing,
Miracles, Faith, Knowledge and Wisdom.
- Ministry gifts: Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists,
Pastors and Teachers.
- Team Ministry Dynamics: Preventing conflicts
with other team members – the most common
cause of missionary drop-outs. Learning the
power of unity.
- Preparing for travel: Documents, flights,
motels, porters, thieves, etc.
Tuition Fees: Open Heart Ministries
is a faith ministry and has a no-charge policy
for conferences, seminars and schools. God uses
people who feel prompted by the Holy Spirit
to support this ministry. Opportunity will be
given each week to donate to Open Heart Ministries
as well as to Iris Ministries. It is the goal
of Open Heart Ministries to be a consistent
financial supporter of Iris Ministries, which
cares for thousands of orphans and pastors in
numerous countries.
